Change 4 Georgia (C4G) has had a busy year because of Remington Youngblood and his army of young, inspirational citizens.
Founded by Youngblood as a Forsyth County fifth grader, C4G is a community service program inclusive to students, providing them with opportunities to thank soldiers and veterans for their service, dedication and sacrifice.
The students collect items from soldiers’ wish lists — items not readily available or provided, but that add comfort and fit in their backpacks.
The program also benefits veterans and their families by providing food, clothing and diapers to those who need a hand up. This Christmas, more than 31 children will have gifts under the tree because of this group’s efforts.
These young people also assembled 150 packages of candy, treats and personal care products for veterans and dozens of blankets along with 25 sleeping bags were given to homeless veterans just this week.
While those efforts alone would be a good year’s work, there was also a food drive for the Winder Homeless Veterans Shelter and an Oatmeal Drive providing soldiers stationed in Afghanistan with 3168 boxes of flavored oatmeal this year. These same soldiers can now wipe their faces thanks to 200 boxes sent them by C4G.
If not enough, C4G provided 106,428 books to Title One schools and lending libraries in 2014.
These young people, who represent the future of our community and our country, take a break this week to wish everyone a very merry Christmas. Click for video.
