Forsyth County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the fourteenth consecutive year. The recognition was presented to Forsyth County for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) issued for Fiscal Year 2013.
“The comprehensive annual financial report is a component of the collaborative effort involved in developing the county government’s budget,” said County Manager Doug Derrer. “Preparing a financial plan that allows us to carry out the county’s mission and vision while maintaining high standards of service to the community is the result of citizens, elected officials, constitutional officers and county staff working together. I extend my appreciation to everyone involved in this project.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was also awarded to Forsyth County Finance Director/CFO David Gruen, as the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning 2013 CAFR.
Forsyth County’s CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. The CAFR is available for review on the Finance Department page of the county Web site at www.forsythco.com.
“Forsyth County government is committed to transparency in our financial operations and receipt of this award reflects that commitment,” Gruen said. “The entire Finance Department is to be commended for their hard work that made this report, and this recognition, possible.”
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
