Have you ever wanted to see the inside of a fire station, get an up-close look at a fire engine or learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher?
The Forsyth County Fire Department will provide an opportunity to do all of those things and more when they host an open house at Fire Station #3 on Monday, June 1.
The event will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fire Station #3 which is located at 6495 Wallace Tatum Road at the intersection of Matt Highway (State Route 369) and Wallace Tatum Road in northwest Forsyth County.
The free event is part of the Fire Department’s ongoing efforts to educate residents about the services provided by the Forsyth County Fire Department and to share fire prevention and emergency preparedness information with the public. The open house event provides a unique opportunity to not only meet and greet fire personnel, but also get an up-close look at the fire station, fire apparatus and the tools used by firefighters.
“The Forsyth County Fire Department takes great pride in serving our community and to being accessible to the citizens,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman. “We look forward to this opportunity to welcome residents to the fire station and to provide them with some important fire safety information.”
During the open house there will be information and activities for all ages. The department’s Fire Safety House will be available at the event to teach children and adults about kitchen safety, smoke alarms and fire drills in the home. Additionally, adults can learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher.
“The open house is of course open to all citizens but will likely be of particular interest to those in the northwestern portion of the county who would like to visit their local fire house,” said Division Chief Jason Shivers. “This is the first open house of this type that we’ve held and we are hopeful that we will be able to schedule more such events at other fire stations across the county in the future.”
Forsyth County Fire Station #3 is located 6495 Wallace Tatum Road on three acres in the Matt area of northwest Forsyth County. The station opened in July 2013 and was funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI funds and Impact Fees. It provides 24-hour coverage with a minimum of three firefighters with an engine and a brush truck. An ambulance with two additional personnel is also housed at this location.
