In his new role on the powerful Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall has secured positions on both the Highways and the Aviation subcommittees.  Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) made the announcement today.  As the sole Member of the Georgia Delegation on the Committee, Woodall’s appointment is a significant development for the State and its transportation interests.

“We have a fantastic opportunity in the 114th Congress to make real progress on the challenges facing our region, and transportation is absolutely one of them,” said Rep. Woodall.  “Georgia is a natural leader on transportation in our region, and having a Georgia voice and advocate on the Committee in Washington will make a big difference for the State and for the nation.”

“There is much to do, but two of the most pressing legislative issues will be creating a long-term highway bill and a long-term aviation bill–both of which will flow directly through the Committee and the subcommittees on which I’m honored to serve,” Woodall continued.  “As the first voice for Georgia on this committee and on these issues in this decade, I am committed to  long-term solutions that will help keep our State competitive and vibrant.  Citizens deserve efficient, effective, and accountable federal highway and aviation programs, and 2015 is the year to provide those solutions.”

Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) also weighed in on the recent subcommittee assignments, saying he looks forward to the added perspective brought by Woodall.

“Rep. Woodall is incredibly hard-working and brings a very valuable point of view to the table,” said Chairman Shuster.  “I’m pleased to see him take on these new roles and am confident his input will be pivotal as we craft the commonsense solutions needed to move the country forward.”

Woodall represents the Seventh Congressional District of Georgia, including the majority of Gwinnett and Forsyth counties, and currently serves as Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process.
