FORSYTH COUNTY, Georgia – Forsyth County Parks and Recreation offers a new opportunity for youth basketball players with the Winter Competitive League. The league is for boys and girls ages 9-14 and is intended to be slightly more competitive than a recreation program. Registration for the basketball league will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning September 24 and continuing through October 12. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited. Registrations will be accepted at the county’s three recreation centers, located at Central Park, Fowler Park and Old Atlanta Park. Registrations may also be submitted via fax, mail and online at www.forsythco.com.

Games will begin on Saturday, December 1 and the season will culminate in an end-of-season tournament starting February 8. Games for ages 13-14 will only be played at the Old Atlanta and Fowler Park recreation centers. The cost for county residents to participate in the basketball league is $120.

Central Park is located at 2300 Keith Bridge Road. Fowler Park is located at 4110 Carolene Way. Old Atlanta Park is located at 810 Nichols Road.

Players desiring to learn the fundamentals of basketball may also consider participating in the new basketball academies scheduled for the spring and fall. Each academy lasts for eight weeks. The cost is $125 for county residents.

The first academy year will focus on learning the fundamentals of basketball while years two and three hone those skills into team play with 3-on-3 competitions. The goal of the academies is to provide players a solid foundation of skills before they play competitive basketball. However, participating in the basketball academy is not required to play in the Winter Competitive League.
