COACH: JEFF ARNETTE
LAST YEAR’S RECORD
STARTERS RETURNING ON OFFENSE: 8
STARTERS RETURNING ON DEFENSE: 9

A 2-8 finish last year left a bitter taste in the mouths of South Forsyth Coach Jeff Arnette and his team.

“We have been waiting to improve on last year since November 4, 2011,” Arnette said this week. “We’re just glad we only have two more weeks to wait and see if our hard work will pay off.”

When the season does open, Arnette will trot out an impressive array of 17 seasoned veterans all of whom have been full- or part-time starters, each determined to make 2011 just a bad memory for War Eagles fans.

Arnette said the players worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the practice field during the off season.

“The experience gained by many of our players is invaluable and has shown in our leadership. Our players want to win and their dedication to winning really showed this summer,” he said.

Back to lead the offense is senior quarterback Jantzen Jeffrey (6’1, 195), a reliable passer and the War Eagles leading returning ground gainer. Joining him in the backfield will be junior running back Brett Larkin (6’0, 220), the team’s second leading rusher last year and junior fullback Isaiah Williams (5’11, 190).

Arnette has a stable of talented wide receivers to call on, including Nick Cochran (5’10, 170) and senior Alex Winski (5’11, 170). Both are two-year starters. Junior Sam Walker is a versatile athlete who started and played several positions last year, including wide receiver, halfback and tight end.

South’s offensive line will be built around two seniors, guard Sterling Abney (5’11, 235) and tackle Michael Scullin 6’2, 275).

The War Eagles are in great shape defensively with nine starters returning.

Up front, South will be led by senior defensive end Everett Cleveland (6’1, 190) and senior defensive tackle Daniel Dickson (6’0, 230)

The defensive backs are senior Eddie Mirynoswki (6’3: 195), a three-year starter, and juniors Matt Cira (5’11, 180), Morgan White (5’9: 170) and Jordan Arnett (6’0: 180).

The line backing corps is young but experienced. Mickey Thomas (6’0 200) is the only senior. Lining up alongside him will be sophomore Tyler LaFlamme (5’ll 190), who started six games as a freshman and junior Kyle Soles: ( 6’0: 195lbs).

This battle-tested group should make 2012 a big year for the War Eagles.
