A Forsyth County man has been arrested and charged with theft by receiving in connection with the theft of the eagle sculpture from the Big Creek Greenway.
According to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office investigators, Pedro Castro Garcia, 29, of Hwy. 9 North, Alpharetta, Ga. was charged today with theft by receiving stolen property. Garcia was apprehended by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit around noon today at his residence. At the time of this release, he was still being booked into the Forsyth County Detention Center.
The stolen statue was located on Sept. 12 in a storage shed at Garcia’s residence. The statue was in good condition and was returned to Forsyth County Parks and Recreation on Friday.
The eagle statue, made of bronze and other metals, was reported stolen from the Big Creek Greenway trailhead off of Bethelview Road in south Forsyth County on Aug. 28. The statue was taken sometime between the evening hours of Aug. 27 and the morning of Aug. 28. It was discovered missing on Aug. 28 by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation staff and reported to the Sheriff’s Office.
