The Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter has partnered with 2015 Mrs. Georgia America contestant, Virginia Mulrooney, to raise awareness and education for lupus.

Mulrooney, who had lived with a severe of lupus for many years before going into remission, is the leader of North Georgia Support Group. The chapter is presenting a Lupus Empowerment Symposium on Saturday, June 27 from 10 am – 2 pm at the Northside Hospital-Forsyth Campus Bennett Education Center located at 1400 Northside Forsyth Drive in Cumming. The married mother of seven will also be competing in the upcoming Mrs. Georgia America pageant later this month.

“As a lupus survivor, having suffered its devastating effects to now being in remission and running for Mrs. Georgia America 2015, I have experienced firsthand the importance of community,” said Mulrooney. Our solving the mystery of lupus starts with the joining of hands. Relationships, where support, education, and awareness thrive, are the key to our finding a cure. I am privileged to have joined hands with the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter. Together we will continue to encourage and promote awareness of lupus and care for and support those caught in its destructive path.”

Presentations will be given by leading physicians and professionals covering critical topics including: Understanding Lupus – Ask the Doctor, Gentle Yoga and Pain Relief and Lupus and the Kidneys. A question and answer segment will be held in every session. The program is free and lunch will be provided to registered attendees and their families.
