A 17-year-old Forsyth County girl was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Spot Road in central Forsyth County on Saturday morning.
Marimar Alvarez of Williams Lane and a student at Forsyth Central High School was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred at approximately 8:06 a.m. as Alvarez was heading to work at her job at McDonald’s on Keith Bridge Road.
According to Investigator Ron Tomblin of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Unit, Miss Alvarez was traveling east on Spot Road when she entered a curve near 3680 Spot Road. When she entered the curve, she lost control of the 1995 Monte Carlo she was driving. The vehicle left the roadway, spun around and struck a culvert. When the vehicle struck the culvert, it began to flip over, according to Inv. Tomblin. The vehicle flipped two times and then the top of the vehicle struck a tree.
Miss Alvarez was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was traveling in the vehicle alone. No other vehicles were involved.
Inv. Tomblin said excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
