Fire Marshal Warns of Potential Phone Scam

The Forsyth County Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office is warning businesses about a potential phone scam.

The Fire Marshal’s Office has received two separate reports this week of local restaurants being called and asked to provide payment to the caller over the phone. The caller advises that they were contacted by the Fire Marshal’s Office and/or that they represent the Fire Marshal’s Office and were calling in reference to the restaurant’s cooking system being in need of repairs. The caller then asked for payment of $400 over the phone.

“The Fire Marshal’s Office does not endorse or share inspection information with third parties,” said Fire Marshal and Division Chief Barry Head. “These calls are absolutely not legitimate and should be reported to our office.”

“Residents and business owners should remember that the Fire Department will never call and demand any type of payment over the phone,” said Division Chief Jason Shivers. “Should you receive such a call, please do not provide any information to the caller, and report the call to the Fire Marshal’s Office.”

Anyone who receives such a call or has any related information should call the Forsyth County Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office at 678-455-8072.
