Passion for food leads to restaurant ownership for local commissioner
CUMMING,Ga. – Earlier this month, Brian Tam announced the opening of “Tam’s at Bluegrass Lakes,” designed as a base of operations for outside catering in Forsyth County and the North Fulton community.
Commissioner Tam, who earlier this year announced his intention to seek re-election to the Board of Commissioners, is currently serving his eighth year as commissioner.
A resident of Forsyth County for more than 17 years, Tam assists in the operation of Tam’s Backstage Restaurant in Cumming with his wife Kelly. In 2007, Tam’s Backstage was honored with the Partners in Education’s Gold Level Award for their long-term dedication to quality public education.
“As a small business operator, I understand what it takes to live within a budget, meet a payroll and manage inventory in a fiscally responsible manner,” Tam said. “Through hard work, determination and perseverance, I am excited to transform my passion for food into restaurant ownership,” he continued.
While the catering facility is not expected to compete with his wife’s restaurant in downtown Cumming, the couple shares a laugh over ‘staying out of each other’s kitchens.’
“We are going to miss having Brian around as much at Tam’s Backstage,” said wife Kelly Tam. “But, his mastery of the culinary arts and his enthusiasm for serving others while turning their events into cherished memories really come together in catering.”
