A body found in Lake Lanier over Memorial Day weekend has been identified as Robert Allen Hancock, 61, of Lawrenceville.
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with the U.S. Park Service, responded Saturday, May 23 to a drowning in the Chattahoochie River area of the McGinnis Ferry boat ramp.
Hancock had been found by fishermen submerged in the water, reports indicate. Hancock’s boat was also found nearby.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Deputy Robin Regan, the investigation revealed no signs of foul play. Regan said, “Detectives believe that Hancock may have fallen from his boat.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an autopsy.
